- See if you need to give your kitchen walls a new paint job.

- Find a good Shabby Chic kitchen table.
- Paint and sand any wooden furniture in the kitchen.
First you want to take a good look and analyze your kitchen to see what you have to work with. Will the walls need repainting? If the walls are dark in color they most likely get a paint job. The color palette you want to work with should be light – white and cream are good for giving your kitchen that cottage, cozy feel.
You’ll need to know how much room you have for a new kitchen table or other items you may add to your kitchen. If you can add some cabinets or shelves, that will help give your kitchen a more rustic feel which is a Shabby Chic trait.
Everyone has a hard time throwing stuff away because they think they might need it “someday”. Well, why not make today the day where you can put some of that old junk to use?
Also, I’m sure some of your friends, siblings or other family members have a bunch of old junk they have no intention of using. Ask them if you can rummage around in their garage or attic for stuff they don’t need but could potentially be useful for you to use as Shabby Chic decorations.
The things you want to look for are old silverware, precious glassware, porcelain bowls and tinware. Silverware can be mixed and matched, so if you managed to get some from friends or a swap meet, feel free to add it to your already existing collection.
A good piece to use as the centerpiece for your kitchen would be a clunky wooded, aged French-style wooden table.
To make your wooden furniture look more like Shabby Chic items, you can paint them with a new layer, let it dry, then sand it away to make it look faded and to expose some of the underneath layers and wood. It is perfectly okay for your furniture to look distressed.
These five tips should have you well on your way to creating an ideal Shabby Chic kitchen.
